Our commitments: custom, ethical and ecological textiles

Environmental pledge by Sodertex

Our expertise in ecodesign

Through our customised product development process, we offer our customers support related to ecodesign issues. In this context, we can offer a panel of materials that are compliant with the environment. Either the fibre can be ecological, or these conversion processes less energy consuming. SODERTEX then supports you with in-depth studies to provide legitimacy to your customised developments.

A panel of textile fibres that are environmentally compliant

Here is a non-exhaustive list of eco-designed textile materials: RPET (from recycled plastic bottle), GOTS certified organic cotton, GRS certified recycled cotton, Tencel (natural cellulose fibre obtained from eucalyptus wood) and flax (uses less energy in its cultivation).

Standards and certifications – let’s discuss

logo certification global organic textile standardIn real terms, the GOTS certificationoffers authenticity of organic cotton. This certification guarantees compliance with environmental and social criteria throughout the entire textile chain: from organic farmers, to garment making, spinning and weaving. This certified organic cotton GOTS (GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD is therefore a fibre produced according to an organic cultivation process and also one whose conversion, packaging, transport and storage procedures are environmentally friendly.

This organic cotton is characterised by:

  • Free from pesticides and insecticide, preference for natural fertiliser,
  • Less energy consuming water use,
  • Crop rotation for better oxygenation of the earth.

In addition to the ecological aspect of organic cotton, its cultivation offers better life comfort for the farmers (improved health with reduced respiratory disorders and diseases related to the use of pesticides).

The recycling of cotton is also an ecological alternative and thus allows reducing the carbon footprint in your custom packaging and gifts. Recycled cotton comes from spilled cotton. These unused production spills are then rewoven to form new functional textiles. To control this recyclability, we require the GRS (GLOBAL RECYCLED STANDARD) standard that checks the recycled content of the cotton fabric rolls.  In real terms, this recycling of cotton consists of bringing a cotton fabric back to its initial raw material state: cotton fibre. For this purpose, it is necessary to cut, then grind and de-fibre the cotton fabric spills. Then, the fibres are twisted into a yarn, which itself is transformed into a new fabric. This recycling of cotton is therefore a useful gesture for your ecological packaging: the more we recycle, the less we destroy and the less we produce.

Ethical & social commitment by Sodertex

SODERTEX, a trusted partner, with international Audit capabilities

Our partner factories are audited before any production. We thus verify their operating methods from an environmental and social point of view (human management and CSR). We prefer certified factories (ISO 9001/14001, SEDEX, OEKO TEX, SA 8000, BSCI).

Zoom-in on the BSCI certification: a safe and healthy environment for all workers

For example, our BSCI certified (Business Social Compliance Initiative) factories have a label with a qualification and audit system aimed at applying social standards within the company. Our partner factories are therefore members of the BSCI register with their own identification number and audit report. This code of conduct was developed with Social Accountability International, awarding the SA 8000 certificate, which guarantees the rights of workers at the union level, child labour, working hours, health and safety at work, as well as fair wages. This code also integrates the environmental issues with waste management, handling and disposal of chemicals and all other hazardous substances.

It should be noted that by 2021, restaurant owners, caterers and VAE (take-away) specialists will have to offer their customers the option of taking their meal’s leftovers back to their homes.
